Why You Want to Negotiate the Rate

Why You Want to Negotiate the Rate

There will come a time when you no longer need to negotiate the rate with the outsourced on-demand Portfolio Professionals™ you engage in your projects. That trust will evolve once you’ve built a great relationship with one individual in which you’re comfortable that they are giving you their best rate. Then you’ll need to build a similar relationship with the next, and the next, and the next.

But you’ll still want to negotiate a rate when engaging a new on-demand professional. Why? Because time is money, and you want to save on both. You want to save time by finding people who can be trusted to work independently without excessive management from you. At the same time, you’ll want to save money by negotiating the best possible rates from the right people. It’s a tricky balance.

Who Do You Want to Negotiate With?

Recruiters, staff augmentation companies, and talent marketplaces have all grown up to make it easier and faster for you to find competent professionals when needed. Most will negotiate the rate with you to some extent. But here’s the question you need to ask yourself: Who would you rather negotiate with? A recruiter or similar agent who spends every day negotiating for a living? Or the professional themselves who know their value, tend to avoid negotiating, and may offer exceptional rates if the project is attractive enough?

Time is money, and you want to save on both. It’s a tricky balance.

It’s important to recognize what you want from the intermediary who introduces you to outsourced candidates. Do you want them acting as a representative of the individual or you? Do you find yourself trying hard to figure out which they’re doing? Do you really want anyone mediating the relationship between you and the person you’re considering engaging?

What you want from that intermediary is to take the busy work off your plate. When you’ve negotiated the rate everything is completely predictable. You know in advance exactly what you’re going to be charged, and you can budget based on it. But let your intermediary pay the professional and simply bill you.

The TDX Talent Marketplace

The TDX Talent Marketplace exists to perform important tasks at the front end of your relationship with the professionals you engage, and at the back end. We help you find the right person at the front end and take care of all the paperwork at the back end. In between you get to make all the choices. You may want to manage projects yourself, or you may want to engage with TDX Ticket to coordinate the dispatch events for you. That’s a separate decision from choosing the technical professional you engage, unless you elect Techadox for the entire engagement. (Yes, that’s another choice you can make).

Talk to a Techadox representative today to learn more about how you save time, money, distraction, busywork, and aggravation by partnering with us.

@kathykacher – Although people are often uncomfortable with the negotiation process, it is a critical part of creating a win/win for both the company and the contractor/freelancer. Thanks for your comment.
